Youth Ministry exists to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person and strives to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the St. John Parish Community. Our goal is to give youth a positive experience of church and guide them as they develop a personal relationship with Christ!
Senior High Youth Ministry (Stuff for Just 9th ~12th Grades) Senior High Youth Ministry/Religious Formation (9th-12th Graders) The Senior High Youth Ministry Program offers youth 9th-12th grade the opportunity to explore their Catholic Christian Faith through a variety of experiences. It is a community based program that joins the youth together for fun, friendship, learning and catechesis, worship, spiritual development and service to one another. Regular meeting times: See RFP Calendar below. Meeting Place: St. John Youth Center (North Side of Activity Center, down the walk) *All Senior High Youth Group Outings (Lock ins, Hayrides, Diocesan Jamboree, Movie Nights, Christmas Caroling, Work Camp, Street Ministry etc.) will originate from the Senior High Youth Ministry Program Night.
Junior High Youth Ministry (Stuff for Just 7th & 8th Grades) Junior High Youth Ministry/Religious Formation (7th& 8th Graders) The Junior High Youth Ministry Program offers youth 7th & 8th grade the opportunity to explore their Catholic Christian Faith through a variety of experiences. It is a community based program that joins the youth together for fun, friendship, learning and catechesis, worship, spiritual development, and service to one another.
Regular meeting times: see RFP Calendar below. Meeting Place: St. John Activity Center *All Junior High Youth Group Outings (Lock ins, Hayrides, Youth Rally, Movie Nights, Christmas Caroling, etc.) will originate from the Junior High Youth Ministy Program.
Stuff for 7th-12th Graders
Street Ministry Serving the poor through direct contact. Once a month we will take hygiene items, clothes, coats/hats/gloves, to Downtown Flint to give to the poor. All 7th-12th graders are invited to help. Watch the bulletin for dates and times.
Other Youth Ministry Stuff Service Opportunities The foundation for our Program is Christ Himself. All activities, events, and programs stem from the Gospel message to serve. We try to preach his word and we try to live it. Service is a fundamental tool that is taught in our program. Through various activities (Work Camps, Christmas Baskets, Soup Kitchen Visits, Street Ministry, Rake and Runs, and Nursing home visits) we try to live by example and reach out to all of God`s children in need. Throughout the year activities are published in the church bulletin, announced at Youth Ministry Nights and listed in the monthly Calendar. All youth are welcome to participate in all the service opportunities. Other Times and Dates of Note:
Serving Coffee and Doughnuts: 4th Sunday of the month 8a.m.-11:30a.m. Street Ministry: Check Bulletin for Monthly Outings Youth Ministry Team (Adults 19 and older) The St. John Youth Ministry Team is made up of adults who are interested in the lives of young people. They work along with the youth minister to implement the program nights for both Junior High and Senior High Youth Ministry. They act as teacher, friend, chaperone and spiritual leaders for the young people they are working with. The main focus of their ministry is to help foster the faith of each young person God is calling them to minister to. Any interested adults are adked to contact the youth ministry office. Confirmation Program (9th graders and above) Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in the Fall of 9th and 10th grade and reception of the sacrament takes place the following Fall. Our Confirmation program is designed to give the candidates the opportunity to understand what it meand to live thier lives as Catholic Christians. Rather than just learning, they will be doing and acting their faith. They are challenged in their faith quest and given the opportunity to develpp their relationships with Christ. The candidates will meet 8 times from October to April in small groups lead by an adult small group facilitator. The group will be mixed gender and will consist of 8 to 10 youth in size. Each meeting will use specific theme that prepares youth for an understanding of the sacrament of confirmation. Candidates will be required to participate win various service opportunities that are offered through the St. John Youth Ministry Program.
Confirmation open to 9-12th graders Rite of Christian Initation for Children (RCIC) (5th-12th Graders) RCIC is the preparation program for those young people desiring to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. It is designed to have the youth meet together as a group and journey together through the process of initation into the Catholic Faith. The program follows the Adult program and culminates with Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) being received at the Easter Vigil. Any Youth 5th-12th grade wishing to join the RCIC must contact the Youth Ministry Office at 629-1850 to register.
Parent Involvement Parents are encouraged to be part of all aspects of our program. If you would like to chaperone, drive, help out on the Youth Ministry Team contact Ron. It is a great way to stay in touch with your child and share the faith with other youth.
