Christmas 2005
The beginning of our Centennial Celebration took place on Christmas Eve 2005 at the Christmas Masses.
 |
The Altar this Christmas was a collaborative effort of many parishioners and friends of St. James. A special thanks goes to the Sisters of St. Francis of Independence, MO and Mary Meador of Soil Service for donating the beautiful poinsettias. |

Prior to each Mass, the choirs delighted us with Christmas Carols. The Children`s Choir sang at the 4:00pm Mass. Fox 4 News videotaped the Children`s Carols and broadcast it at 6:00pm. At Midnight Mass, the St. James Choir performed. "Outstanding music & fellowship," said Frank and Betty Solomon, former parishioners (1932-1950). A big thank you to all the musicians and to Ric Kocher for directing both Choirs. |

Altar Servers, Daniel Eke and Dustin Nelson, dressed in traditional cassocks and surplices used many years ago at St. James. Fr. Garry and Dcn. Ross borrowed old-fashioned vestments from the Redemptorist Order at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. |

Fr. Garry began each Mass by proclaiming the Christmas Martyrology. |
CHRISTMAS MARTYROLOGY
In the five thousand one hundred and ninety-ninth year of the creation of the world from the time when God in the beginning created the heavens and the earth;
the two thousand nine hundred and fifty-seventh year after the flood;
the two thousand and fifteenth year from the birth of Abraham;
the one thousand five hundred and tenth year from Moses and the going forth of the people of Israel from Egypt;
the one thousand and thirty-second year from David`s being anointed king;
in the sixty-fifth week according to the prophecy of Daniel;
in the one hundred and ninety-fourth Olympiad;
the seven hundred and fifty-second year from the foundation of the city of Rome;
the forty second year of the reign of Octavian Augustus;
the whole world being at peace,
in the sixth age of the world,
Jesus Christ the eternal God, desiring to sanctify the world by his most merciful coming,
being conceived by the Holy Spirit, and nine months having passed since his conception,
was born in Bethlehem of Judea of the Virgin Mary, being made flesh.
In the one thousand nine hundred and sixth year after that blessed event,
the parish of St. James at 39th and Harrison, Kansas City, Missouri was born.
Exactly 100 years later, in the year of our Lord two thousand and six;
After a century of making Christ present through its prayer and service,
This community of St. James church gathers to proclaim to the highest heavens,
JESUS CHRIST IS BORN!

Many former parishioners and friends of St. James joined us for this celebration. Guests came from as far away as Arizona and California. We enjoyed their fellowship over cookies and punch after each Mass. "A wonderful church family!" said friend of St. James, Adrienne Ruby. "Thanks for keeping it together." |
