I was baptized at Our Lady of Lourdes and went there through 4th grade. I would have been in the class of 1960 but my family moved to Skoie (St. Joan of Arc) I remember Jackie Heinz, Bonnie Bock, Joannne Jorgenson, Dave Dudak, and Karen Dubiel, among otheres. I moved out to Albuquerque after law school, but my daughter moved back to Chicago7 years ago. It would be fun to hear from anyone in that class. I am at dlee299@yahoo.com. I was the fat kid who sat in the back of every class. Sister Mary Pasquela smacked me in the nose when i forgot my homework, gave me a bloody nose, and told me to walk around the hallways til it dried up. Funny what you remember.

Greetings,
I felt compelled to check out the Parish after finding my Certificate of Baptism in my safety deposit box. My celebration was on November 8, 1964. At that time Rev. Joseph E. Carrigan was the Pastor. I am glad to see everything is going well at your Parish. Keep up the good work! Sincerely, Scott Joseph Lucero

I attended OLofL K-4 in the early 40`s. I remember the school fire and attending classes in Chase Park Auditorium for the rest of that year. I was Baptized, made my First Communion, and later returned to be married in OLofL church. I remember Fr. Fielding and 4th grade teacher, Sr. Lucy, also the uniforms and red tams which we wore.

I remember the BVM`s and the school fire around 1943-4? and attending classes in Chase Park Auditorium during the rennovation after the fire. Also, the candy story directly across the street north rom the church. The owners daughter became my sister-in-law!

I just wanted to let you all know that a wealth of information is still at the school. Her name is Joanne Festle and has been temporarily working at the parish for over 45years. She is truly a blessing to Our Lady of Lourdes. I have a lot of pictures my father took of the processions etc. at the school during the 1960s.
If anyone would like those emailed to them. Just shoot me an email at tigcap@verizon.net. God bless you all.

i remember on those days it snowed how we would have to go to the cafeteria and change into dry ones for school. did anyone participate in the elective program? i was known there as the boy who locked himself in his own locker at chase park. lol during my time the school would set up like a mini carnival in the cafeteria for one day out of the year and we would be allowed to roam free all day. ever year santa would visit for christmas, and how funny it was that the alter boys would look forward to funerals because of the tips...

Trying to find out about Mom. When I was young my mother told me she went to school at Lourdes high school on the north side of Chicago and that it no longer existed. I did`t think to ask her more about it at the time. She`s now deceased. She would have been in high school some time between 1927 and 1933. Does anyone know if this parish had a girls high school in those years?

I attended Our Lady of Lourdes between 1969 and 1973, grades 2-6. I remember Miss McLaughlin, Mrs. Kascinski, Sister Elizabeth Daily, Sister Mary Aquino, Sister Celeste, Mrs. Jimenez, Sister Lucy, Sister Pat, Sister St. Edgar, Father Ferriaz, Father McHugh, Miss Davison, Miss Kehl, Mrs. Thomas, and so many kids from my class as well as my older sister`s.
I recently found a book of notes I received from my classmates when I moved after the 6th grade, so I thought I`d see if the school is still in operation.

I also remember the cafeteria moms and the PB&J sandwiches, the Jays potato chips, the 5th grade boys delivering the white and chocolate milk to each room, the bicycles to the green pipe posts in front of church, being a patrol boy at Leland and Paulina, being an alter boy and choir boy, Sister Mary Emilissa teaching choir and piano lessons, the announcements over the PA, the blue lights to keep the lice away, the thrill of being selected to open or close the upper windows with the window poles, the occasional requirement for the janitor to bring sawdust into the classroom, the fire drills and the air raid drills (like being under your desk will protect us from radiation), that Sister Mary Pascalas always liked the boys better than the girls, that we all waited for Sister Mary Athanasious to bite her tongue. I also remember the Sugar Bowl and the attempts by the 8th grade girls after graduation trying to flush their tams down the drain, the girls having to wear the blue skirts, white blouses, and baleros and the boys the tan shirts and blue ties. I remember sitting to the side of my desk in order to leave room for my guardian angel to share my seat and wondering if the nuns were boys or girls. Who can forget how we waited for gym class, Mr Ed Kelly, and playing dodge ball. Our basketball team and how we played games at Chase Park and Greenbriar Park. How about the little bottles of Holy water that some of us filled under the church. Stations of the cross on lent Fridays, or the seating in church by room and that you weren`t present if you didn`t turn in your envelope and the nuns keeping order in church by sounding their clickers.
All of these memories, yes, but the most important ones were the fond friendships, some that are still intact today.

This site brings back many fond memories. My two sisters (Patricia class of 53) and (Donna 57), my brother (Richard 59) and I(Dennis 56) all attended K through 8. My older sister Pat remembered the school fire that took place before I attended OLOL. Many have mentioned Msgr Campbell. I also remember Fathers Bergen, Cronin and Fielding. I have to admit that the sisters gave us a quality education and even metered out a little discipline for which I was a many time recipient.
My two closest male friends were Tim Dietz and Perry Georgoulis (both died way, way, way too young). My closest lady friends were Maureen Gannon and Susan May.
I found this site while trying to track down John Lyon who was a classmate of my sister Pat. BTW - I have not reached him yet.

Hi Everyone
I attended Lourdes ’54 – ’62, K- 8 (Hi, Mary W. and Michaleen R.). My sister Veronica (Ronnie) attended ‘51 – ’59, my brother John from ‘59 – ’67. I know Lottie’s brother Marion. I still have the smaller composite graduation picture, Class of ’62. In 1st grade I was one of the "priest" presenters for the Kindergarten ‘graduation’ (picture in scrapbook). I was an Altar Boy in 7 – 8th grade. I was on the 8th Grade Debate team, the finals held at Wells Park Auditorium (anyone remember those? I still have the program!!,). For awhile I recited the Rosary decade over the intercom from the office right after Recess, also played the Sousa music for marching out of school. I wonder how long that lasted after I left? I was the crossing Guard at e Leland & Clark in either 7th or 8th grade. I went to Loyola Acad. in Winnetka. Now live in MN. Visited church last year; still as beautiful as ever, stained glass, marble, gold leaf paint, also the Grotto. Was there on a Baptism Saturday, looks like a big Hispanic population now, not so many Germans, Italians, Poles, Irish as I remember. How times change; new times, new immigrants, a wonderful transition. School was still open, appears to be leased out as a chiropractic or health care teaching school or something thing like that.

I read with sadness Mary Werle`s posting about her brother Jeff. He was in my class. Please keep me informed about the parish. Carol, I also remember Lynne Clancy and Connie Klymm. I went to kindergarden there in 1965 and grades 1-4 after that. For some reason I googled Our Lady Of Lourdes and for the first time in many decades saw the pictures of the church. Fond memories and the realization that we were certainly lucky to have been a part of such a beautiful church. Would like to see the class pics in the school as our home burned down and we lost all old pictures. I still remember having class pictures made there and I`m almost at the half century mark!

I was married by Father colleran to Mary Ann Seifert Schoenfeldt. As most church members know Mary passed away on April 15 2007 due to alzheimer, dementia, parkinsons and deep depression. She was a member of Our lady of lourdes choir for many years and was sad that she lost her voice and could no longer sing in the choir, but i can tell you all she is now singing with the Angels in the big choir in heaven and her voice is as pure as you last herd. Mary did a lot for members of lourdes community and i am shure doing the same in heaven Mary was a giver not a taker. i am proud to have been Married to her for almost 21 years not neerly long enough.

Hello everyone! We`re thrilled that so many former students and parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes are finding our site and using it to share such wonderful memories!! However, we wanted to clear up a misconception which has apparently taken hold. THE SCHOOL HAS NOT BEEN TORN DOWN. It is true that we closed the School program 3 years ago due to low enrollment, but the building is still intact and providing a home for our large Religious Education program and a full-time Adult Medical Job Training School. In addition, the class photos are still on the first floor walls. We invite you all to stop in and visit when you next stop in Chicago. In the meantime, please enjoy our site as we keep it up to date with our current activities. May God continue to bless you all!

He was murdered in 1972. Nobody cared enough to investigate. My Brother Richard Werle passed away, 2years later. I had no idea our school was torn down! I loved my days at school there. I am so sad to hear that they tore down the school ... the Church still looks beautiful though. I am hoping to get back to Chicago this spring before my Grandparents house is sold. It would be good to get back to see the old neighborhood, although I cannot imagine it without the school. The May processions were so awesome and Msgr Campbell was the best. He always called me "Tillie Skoscuttle". I remember well celebrating his 50th year in the priesthood ... I think we gave him a golden Chalice to commemorate the event.
It would be wonderful to hear from other classmates ... Lynne Clancy & Connie Klym ... wow that brings back memories! Our Lady of Lourdes, Hail To Thee ... Forever.

I remember being in a play about Monsignor Campbell for his 50th year in the priesthood back in the late 50`s, around the time of President Eisenhower.
We lived at 4456 N Ashland Ave, in a big victorian house which was torn down and replaced by apartments. We moved to Wisconsin to help my father`s aging parents and there attended Immaculate Conception school and church.
God bless you all!
