MISSION STATEMENT

St. Teresa of Avila Parish is a multi-cultural Catholic Faith Community encompassing a large number of Hispanic and Anglo members but also including African-Americans, Asians, and many other cultures as well. We celebrate God`s love for all people, welcoming all who come to us. As a Catholic Christian community, we center our life and worship in the Eucharistic liturgy to listen and reflect on God`s Word; to bless, break and share the Body and Blood of Christ. This empowers us to care for and about one another and all others, in joy and in sorrow, all in God`s name. Our gathering together to celebrate Mass enables us to reach out to people of all races, cultures, ages, sexual orientations, and economic levels, excluding no one. Strengthened and renewed by God`s Word and His Bread of Life, and in conjunction with the strong commitment of the laity, we seek to bring others to the table of the Lord. In faith and charity, we reach out to our neighbors, especially the poor, needy, and elderly, in order to overcome urban isolation, spiritual emptiness, and the entrapments of the material world. We believe in gender equality and that we are truly brothers and sisters to one another; daughters and sons of God --- all of us. We believe that throughout our lives we continue to grow together in the knowledge of our faith and the Word of God. We welcome all others who seek a deeper understanding and experience of God and the presence of Christ among us. As members of the Catholic Church, we believe we are united with other faith communities throughout the world, together, as God`s people, we give witness to the Gospel, give thanks to God, and serve others in this neighborhood and beyond.
