Adoration

Children`s Adoration Hour - Parish families are welcome to bring their children to Our Lady`s Chapel on Tuesday, (TBA) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Here they will encounter the silent and loving presence of Jesus in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.  This will be a facilitator-lead service with spoken and silent prayers, and soft singing throughout the hour. Children that attend St. Mary`s School`s aftercare are invited to attend. There will be an adult volunteer to assist them back and forth from aftercare. A permission slip is required. Parent volunteers may use these hours to fulfill their Obligatory Service hours. Other children (non-St.Mary`s students) must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver for the duration of the hour. Copies of the prayers and hymns will be provided. We`re looking forward to offering another service in March, so please come, even for just a small amount of time! For more information, please contact Jennifer Pohren at (240) 441-2124 or email her at
jen.pohren@yahoo.com. This is a great opportunity to enrich you and your child`s prayer life outside of the sacraments.

Tuesday:  After 8:30 a.m. Mass to 9:00 p.m. (Benediction prior to 9:00 p.m.)

Wednesday:  After 8:30 a.m. Mass to 9:00 p.m. (Benediction prior to 9:00 p.m.)

Thursday:  After 8:30 a.m. Mass to 8:00 p.m. (Divine Mercy Chaplet/Benediction prior to 8:00 p.m.)

Permanent Adorers are needed:

Tuesday 6 to 7 p.m.   Permanent Adorer
Tuesday 7 to 8 p.m.   Permanent Adorer
Wednesday 3 to 4 p.m. (this is for only 4 months)

(Just a reminder  that during the winter months Eucharistic Adoration and other evening events will not be held when St. Mary’s School is closed for inclement weather such as snow, freezing rain, or ice, as announced on the radio or television.  If there is a delay in opening the school, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed to correspond with the opening of the school or at the discretion of the pastor.  (Mass is always held if the priest can get to the church.)

Holy Communion for the Sick

Please contact the parish office if you would like Communion brought to your home (301) 292-0527.

Sacrament of Baptism

In order to have your infant or child baptized at St. Mary`s Church you will need to complete the form below and return it to the parish office.  The next step is to setup an appointment with the parish priest, Father Baer (301) 292-0527.  After that, parents must then attend a Baptism preparation class (please contact Bill Keimig (301) 292-0527 Ext. 104).  Finally, a date of baptism will be setup with Father Baer or one of our deacons that is convenient for both parties involved.

Please print off this
FORM, if you desire a copy of the above procedures.

Please print off this FORM, and complete this form and bring it to your scheduled appointment with Father Baer.

Sacrament of Matrimony

The bride or groom must be a parishioner of St. Mary`s Parish.  Arrangements with a priest should be made at least 6 months in advance.  Music arrangements must be made with Dr. Terry at (301) 292-0527.

Annointing of the Sick

If the person needing annointing is at a hospital, please contact the hospital chaplain (please also inform the parish office so we can pray for you!)  If it is an emergency, and the person is at home and in danger of death, please call our emergency line at (301) 292-6904 and speak to Father Baer.  If Father isn`t available, please contact another priest at a local parish.

Funerals

It is customary for the family to contact the funeral home of their choice after a loved one is deceased.  If the family member was a parishioner of St. Mary`s, the funeral home will contact a parish priest to schedule the date and time for a funeral Mass.  Music arrangements for a funeral Mass must be made with Dr. Terry (please call the office for his phone number.)  Cemetery arrangements are made with Catholic Cemeteries at (301) 932-1766.

Support the Cardinal`s Appeal

The Cardinal`s Appeal is a campaign to raise funds that support the programs, services and ministries of our archdiocese.  This campaign supports St. Mary`s School, Father Samaha, our chaplain at Southern Maryland Hospital and the Forestville Pregnancy Center.  In additional their good works extend far beyond the boundaries of our parish to those in need.

MISSION STATEMENT:

Endowed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the members of St. Mary`s dedicate ourselves in a spirit of mutual respect to live and proclaim the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.  We are called to do this by reaching into our parish family, and reaching out to the universal Church, by our constant ministering to their spiritual, educational, social and material needs.  Our parish endeavors to use all that God has given us for His glory - be that our time, talent, or treasure - in an environment of collaborative ministry, in full harmony with the teachings of and traditions of our Catholic faith.  The members of our community act as faithful followers of Jesus and recognize from Whom the gifts come and will joyfully give back to God what He has asked of us, under the constant care and protection of Mary, our Blessed Mother.
